Salon Series: The BOOK DOCTOR is IN! January 31

$40.00

Bring your old banged up books and find out how repairs can be made in this discussion workshop with NU book conservator Lindsey Williams.

While this isn’t a hands on workshop, you’ll receive valuable advice on what to do (and what not to do) as well as tips on how to store your most valuable books, and more!

Ms. Williams will review each book one at a time with the group talking through considerations for each book regarding repair or other preservation steps.

Think of it like Show and Tell using the attendee’s items. Each book is unique even if the damage type is similar to another but for sake of time, similarly damaged books may be discussed together or compared against others.

As the process continues, very likely similar concepts will come up repeatedly, opening the floor to discussion about the differences between conservation, restoration and preventive preservation.

Discussion will also include treatment options either by general public or trained practitioners and how to ascertain risks and rewards of each option.

No experience necessary.

Each participant should bring TWO books for discussion. Limited to 10 participants.
