Have you ever leafed through a pop-up book and wondered how it was made? Have you noodled with a book art project and fantasized about bringing dimension or animation into the work?
Master paper engineer Shawn Sheehy can help with your curiosity!
In this four week (eight-hours) course, you will assemble and examine a variety of foundational structures based on both pop-ups (the action is dimensional and happens when you turn the page) and movables (the action is flat and happens when you pull a tab or turn a wheel).
Using just a handful of simple tools, you will explore the dimensional and mechanical potential of 80 lb card stock and glue. You will become familiar with the fundamentals and vocabulary of paper engineering.
Ultimately, you will bind the completed structures into a simple, satisfying case. All levels are welcome; beginners are encouraged.
TWO sections: 1-3 pm IN PERSON at 840 Custer
April 14
April 21
April 28
May 5
This course registration fee is $225 with an additional $55 materials fee added, as Mr. Sheehy will prep paper materials in advance.
